Local Knowledge

Our writers are guides, charter captains, biologists, and lifelong surfcasters from Maine to the Chesapeake. They write about where the fish are, what they’re feeding on, and how to catch them, with the kind of detail that only comes from years on the water.

Something to Look Forward To

There’s nothing like finding a new issue in the mailbox, especially in February when the boat is shrink-wrapped and the season feels a long way off. Each one is worth reading cover to cover, and it will have you planning your next trip before you finish.

Read Without Limits

A subscription also unlocks every article on OnTheWater.com, so you’ll never run into an article limit, plus the digital versions of both the New England and Mid-Atlantic editions. Read them on your phone, tablet, or computer.

On The Water 30th anniversary issue cover

30 Years On The Water

On The Water has covered Northeast fishing since 1996, with articles about striped bass, fluke, tuna, and everything in between, written by the anglers, guides, and biologists who know your fishery. Plenty of our readers keep their old issues on a shelf and go back to them years later.

We’re also the ones behind the Striper Cup. More than 5,000 anglers enter every year, the tournament runs all season, and it wraps up at StriperFest, the biggest fishing party on the East Coast. If you fish the Northeast, you’ve probably fished next to a few of them.
