Roger Neset drew a big crowd behind him last Friday, August 15th when he reeled in a large black drum from the beach in Sandy Hook.
In his own words:
“I went on vacation in the Sandy Hook, NJ area last Friday with family and friends and was only on the beach for an hour after checking in. I put on my snorkel gear and swam into about 8 feet of water just 20-30 feet out. I saw a fluke on the bottom so I decided to head back in and take a few casts around the same area with my fluke rod, equipped with 10lb mono line and a white 4” curly tail gulp. On my second cast I thought I snagged the bottom, then the bottom began to move! A half hour later, and with cheers from the large crowd that had gathered behind me to watch, I pulled in this monster black drum. A rough measure revealed she was around 46 inches in length and after a 10 minute revival time she was successfully released. I then enjoyed celebrity status as throughout the weekend people would point to me at the beach and hotel and say “that’s the guy who caught that huge fish”!”

Good for you Rodger for releasing that fish, at least you gave it a chance. Most people would have kept it to show off and then dump it.
HOLY MACKEREL! or HOLY BLACK DRUM!
That’s a big fish caught by a master fisherman!
Let this be a good lesson to all you 50+ pound braid guys. Take a look at that guy’s lunker. 10 lb mono.
