Sean M and his dad Don headed out to do a little flounder fishing at the Ocean City Reef and after a few decent flounder, they drifted past a pot flag and saw two large cobia. Sean was ready with a fluorocarbon leader and hook. He reached in to the minnow bucket and grabbed the largest minnow they had before casting it toward the huge fish. The minnow landed 5 to 10 feet from the cobia, sending the cobia full speed toward the bait, jumping out of the water as he ate it. The ensuing fight took over 30 minutes. Armed with nothing more than a small hand gaffe, the two of them were able to wrestle the fish in to the boat. The cobia hit the scales at 86.4 pound and 62 inch, just shy of the 87 pound New Jersey state record.
