Catching the Same Bass Two Years in a Row

Throughout the history of bass fishing, anglers have always paid attention to fish movements and behavior, trying to figure out the repetitive habits of bass and where they move throughout the season. The more you know about their behavior, the more fish you will catch at various times of the year.

One angler in Maine took the next step to learn more about where fish move to (or in this case return to) in one of the great bass fishing states in the country. Jonathan Barzacchini (@JonBrollin on YouTube) bought a cabin in Bangor, Maine a few years ago in attempt to explore a new fishery in the northeast. He quickly fell in love with the wide variety of fishing available but was drawn to how fun and consistent the freshwater bass fishing is in the state.

Last year while fishing a lake near his house, Jon caught a quality largemouth bass out of a deep rockpile on a Googan Baits bandito bug. With Jon being a curious angler, he decided to deploy a tag in the healthy middleweight bass to see if he could learn more about the behavior of bass in the state of Maine, and told his viewers to let him know if anyone catches it. Little did he know he would return to the same rockpile a year later, and catch the same fish on the same exact bandito bug. To his surprise the fish was a bit bigger, and even healthier than ever. Jon attributed the health of the bass to proof that proper catch and release techniques work. “To me, this is proof that CPR in fact 100% works, especially when you handle your catch with care”.

Learning from the experience, Jon knows that bass will relate to rock piles, grass and other structure that they are familiar with because they know there is feeding opportunity there. Another sign to take care of the fish you catch, so they can continue to grow bigger and be caught again one day.
