Welcome to the Restoration Files!

My name is Neal Larsson and I’m a boat junkie. I’ve been a boat junkie since I was about 7 years old and was handed down my first wooden flat bottom skiff from my older brothers. I’ll be honest with you, I have no desire to be cured of this addiction.

My name is Neal Larsson and I’m a boat junkie.  I’ve been a boat junkie since I was about 7 years old and was handed down my first wooden flat bottom skiff from my older brothers.  I’ll be honest with you, I have no desire to be cured of this addiction.

My job here at On The Water has allowed me to mingle with other boat junkies like Chris Megan.  Chris and I are able to feed our addiction through OTW and we’d like to share it with you the other boat junkies and enthusiasts that we know are out there.  We are starting a new feature called “The Restoration Files” in On The Water Magazine.  In the feature article we’ll take you from purchase to re-fit of a classic Black Watch 30 hull.  In this blog we’ll give you the behind the scenes, advance look into the feature as we put this project together.  Here we’ll cover some of the products and services we’ll be using, and why we are using them.

First let me tell you about the boat.  The Blackwatch was built in RI by Ted Hood and designed by Hunt Yachts.  It was one of the most technologically advanced 30’ class sportfishing boat of its time.  We’ll visit some of that technology in the refit and look at the advances in marine equipment in the last 25 years.  For now I’ll have to sign off and get some work done here at the office…
