Cerakote Coating Makes the Exceed Quantum's Toughest Reel Yet

Quantum's durability push continues with the Exceed, the first spinning reel to use Cerakote coating on the body and side plate.

Since returning to the saltwater reel market in 2024, durability has been a focal point for Quantum’s new reel releases. Every reel, beginning with the Strive and Benchmark has been sealed to at least an IPX6 rating, with two reels featuring an even more impervious IPX8 rating that keeps saltwater and sand out of the drag and gear box, even if the whole reel is submerged. The first was the Cabo, released in 2025 as the latest and greatest version of a familiar favorite spinning reel from the 2000s and 2010s. The second is the new Exceed, which adds a new layer to its durability.

The Exceed is the first spinning reel to use Cerakote coating on the body and side plate. Cerakote is a ceramic-based finish used on firearms, known for being incredibly tough and corrosion-resistant. It shrugs off salt, abrasion, and the wear that eats away at metals over time.

Other features include Quantum’s Casteq on the 2500 to 5000 sizes. This is a slow oscillation that optimizes line lay on the spool, leading the farther casts and fewer wind knots. The CFX200 Carbon Fiber Drag System provides best-in-class max drag with a smooth, consistent curve and the GEARTEQ machined gearing brings serious cranking power and a smooth feel that holds up to seasons of abuse from Northeast bruisers like stripers, bluefish, and albies.

The Exceed features a carbon rotor on all of the six reel sizes, including the bigger 6000 and 8000 models, plus a new comfortable carbon handle knob.
