Classic Reel Resurrected: Penn Z-Series

Penn Reels is bringing back two models from the classic Z Series after stopping production on the reels in the early 2000s. The 704z and 706z were longtime favorites among surfcasters for their durability and easiness to maintain, even after dunking them in saltwater. The reels will be exactly the same as the old models, allowing anglers to purchase parts for old Z-Series reels. The new 704z and 706z reels will cost $200 and will
be available in September.

Can't wait! These were the best spinning reels ever for the money!

Can’t wait I still have my drill press set up to drill it out and make it better.

I have an old, 710z, never hear anything about that one. Whats the difference between the 710 and 706?

The 710 is a smaller reel.

Penn 710 ?! In about 1983 a guy named Albert McRenolds (?) caught a world record striper of 87.8 pounds from the New Jersey surf using this reel. Last year a guy broke that long standing record in Long Sound but he was in a boat and I don’t think that’s the same thing. So in my small world the 710 and Al McRenolds are still some kind of kings .
