Story:
Team Amped Up’s name was inspired by the four power industry workers who started the team and were excited to fish the Striper Cup for the first time in 2011. That first year they had 12 team members, growing to 20+ last year and 41 this year. They’ve been able to grow rapidly thanks to sponsorships provided by local businesses in the Branford area. T-shirts (like the one Michaela is wearing in the photo below) are given out at a kick-off party each year and help to bring the team together when they’re out fishing.
In addition to striper fishing, many Team Amped Up members enjoy blackfishing and offshore fishing, even counting former Star Island Marina and Montauk Marine Basin tournament champions among their ranks.
Captain Chris Jensen on why he fishes the Striper Cup:
“I fish the striper cup because I love fishing tournaments. The competition is great and it pushes you a little bit harder when you have a team of guys all working together to win the cup. It brings all my fishing friends closer as we work towards the common goal of being the best team out there. Its great to meet all the other devoted, skilled, and avid fishermen out there that all share the same passion. Its amazing how something so simple can become so addictive. OTW does a fantastic job with all the prizes, judging, weigh in stations, websites, magazine updates and articles. Everyone loves being part of a team for the camaraderie and I hope this tournament continues for ever. Keep up the great work OTW.”
