In The Episode
Capt. Steve Fernandez, a Breezy Point, NY native, turned his lifelong passion for fishing into a career after earning a degree in earth and atmospheric science and spending eight years in the corporate world. After gaining extensive experience working under Capt. Mark Deblasio aboard the Blue Runner in Manasquan, NJ, he now runs the 64’ Viking Five Seas, specializing in offshore pelagic fishing for Bigeye, Yellowfin, and Giant Bluefin tuna in New York, Florida, and the Bahamas.
After what he calls the best bigeye season of his 30-year canyon career, Steve breaks down how omni sonar is allowing crews to track, follow, and cast to tuna schools in ways that were unthinkable a decade ago. Also discussed: jigging and popping in the canyons, eel-trolling for stripers, and massive tog.
