Female Surfcaster Catches (and Releases) Big Bass

How many surf fishermen can say they’ve caught – and released – a 49-inch striper? OTW reader Jessica Heil of Kingston, Massachusetts sent us an email with the subject “Girls Do Catch Big Fish” and attached was this photo of a 49-inch striper that she estimates was just shy of 50 pounds. The striper ate a pogy (bunker) head and was landed on a Massachusetts South Shore beach on Columbus Day. Congrats Jessica!

Jessica Heil caught and released this big striped bass on October 8, 2012.
