Like it or not, we fishermen are vain creatures, and even though we may be releasing our catch, we’d still like to know its weight. That’s one of the reasons that for the past two seasons, my model 260 BogaGrip has accompanied me on every trip, boat or surf. That model is capable of weighing fish up to 60-pounds, and displays the weight in half-pound increments. A nice feature about the BogaGrip is that it grasps the fish by the lower jaw to weigh it, and doesn’t hook and potentially damage the fish like more traditional fishing scales. The Boga also provides an easy and safe way to handle toothy fish like bluefish and fluke. When I’m surfcasting with my BogaGrip on my belt, it’s spending more time under the water than above it, and so far, I haven’t had any issues with the tool. I do occasionally rinse it with fresh water just to keep all the moving parts free of sand and salt.
