Until I was 23 years old, I never fished for trout in a body of water wider than your average city street. Since casting distance was never an issue, I always used rods of only 5 feet in length. When I began working for On The Water, however, I began fishing for trout in larger rivers and ponds, and before long, I noticed that other guys at the office were not only out-casting me, they were out-catching me. The search for a longer rod brought me to the Elite Tech River Runner series from Fenwick. At 6-foot, 8 inches with an ultralight action, the rod has the length to make long casts with offerings as small as a 1/32-ounce jig or a 1/16-ounce Roostertail spinner. The rod casts a wide range of lure sizes well, and in December 2010, while casting a ¼-ounce Kastmaster into a stiff headwind, I hooked and landed my biggest trout ever, a 24-inch, 5.5-pound brown. The Elitech River Runner is without question, the finest trout spinning rod I have ever used.

I noticed that you mentioned that the rod had a ultralights action…which rates up to 3/16 lure size, yet you seem to have no issues with casting the 1/4 Kastmaster (caught my largest trout ever with also, but a fraction of the size of yours) lure.
I am debating between the Light action and Ultralight action because I like to throw those 1/4 Kastmasters a lot! I found a Light action and just bought it because I did no see a Ultralight but could exchange it if nessary.
What do you think? Pairing it with a either a Pflueger Pres LE 25 and or a Plueger Patriarch 25. Felt tip heavy with the Patriarch mounted on the Light action also…Thoughts?
Thanks
Your thoughts in the Light vs Ultra Light? Seems that you had no issues with the 1/4 oz Kastmaster lure with the UL rods….1/4 is the man size that I use.
Thanks
