Where I fish in Boston Harbor, not only is there great structure, but there is deep water, 30 feet or more, close to shore. Here, the 6-inch Slug-Go is one of my favorite lures. I prefer the 6-inch over the 9-inch since this size resists spinning better and it sinks quickly without having to use a very heavy jighead.

I cast the Slug-Go diagonal from shore so it starts in deeper water but is also covering a good distance of the shoreline. Depending on the structure, I may be able to cast parallel or even jig straight down, like at the Port Authority pier. The retrieve should be fast enough to make the tail of the bait flap around. After about 2 to 3 seconds of retrieve, I stop reeling completely and let the bait sink for a good second or two. Then I reel again quickly and repeat. I try to get 3 to 4 pauses in the retrieve since 90 percent of the time, the stripers will hit the bait on its way down. The 6-inch Slug-Go looks just like an injured fish that makes a dash for the surface and then falls to the bottom, making it irresistible to stripers.
