The 7-inch Beach Runner by Stillwater Lures is a great adaptation of a common plug design. The floating plug weighs in at 1.3 ounces, and is heavier than many similar minnow-style plugs. The plug also features chambers loaded with BBs that help give the lure some extra casting distance and a seductive rattling retrieve. The Beach Runner is best when retrieved at an almost painfully slow pace in calm conditions; this produces a slow wobble and v-wake that will bring fish to the surface. When worked quickly the plug will dart and rattle like a sub-surface swimbait or jerkbait; this makes it a great choice when fishing in shallow water.

When splashers and pencil poppers aren’t working but you still want the thrill of a topwater bite, the Beach Runner draws surface strikes even from finicky fish. Fish will hit this waking plug furiously. The body of the plug is durable, but if you are hoping to catch stripers over 20 pounds, it’s a good idea to replace the hooks and split rings with stronger components.
