Fish Beer Friday Review: Local Fly Co. American Lager

According to the can, “After a long day of bad casts and tall tales, you deserve a good beer.” As a novice fly-fisherman, I can relate to the “bad cast” part, although I feel I always deserve a good beer...

Alas, just when I thought the OTW crew had sampled every fish beer the Northeast has to offer, we were treated to a gift from an old friend, Chris Parisi.

Chris worked in our circulation department many years ago, and recently opened a fly shop in Bristol, Connecticut named The Local Fly Co. The fly shop shares a building with The New Cambridge Project, a brewery run by Chris’s brother, and the two collaborated to create this American Lager.

This brew was a pleasant surprise. It sported beautiful clarity, and poured with a medium white head with above average retention. The aroma had a bit of malty sweetness. This is a super satisfying beer to drink with balanced toasty malt, it’s slightly rich, but clean and smooth with a pleasant hoppy bite on the finish.

If you ever find yourself in Bristol, CT, or fishing the legendary nearby Farmington River, I highly recommend you stop by and treat yourself to one of these refreshing brews.
