Doug Hannon, widely known to fishermen as the “Bass Professor,” died unexpectedly last week at his Florida home. He was 66.
Hannon documented the catch-and-release of more than 800 largemouth bass weighing 10 pounds or greater to his credit, making him one of the country’s preeminent big-bass authorities. He was also a highly skilled diver, underwater photographer, author, filmmaker and lure designer….As one of the world’s greatest authorities on bass fishing Hannon wrote hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles on his observations. He also penned three books, Hannon’s Field Guide for Bass Fishing, Catch Bass, and Big Bass Magic. He filmed and produced videos with 3M called Understanding Bass, Catching Big Bass, and Bass-Formula for Success. In 2000, Hannon was inducted into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Wis..
Born in Winnipeg in 1946, Hannon moved to the U.S. at age 7, attended Governor Dummer Academy in Massachusetts and graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans.

I called Dough a couple of times , he didn’t know me , but talked to me like he knew me his whole life , I was buying a Bass boat and he gave me ideas on how to rig it and gave me quite a few ideas on fishing for big bass in my home state of NC. A great man , I met him at two different classics , funny he was walking outside no one was around him a lot of people didn’t even know who he was I walked up and said the Bass professor and we talked for a while , RIP Doug
