It’s not looking good for any offshore fishing this weekend, but the anglers who found a weather window this week got into some great fishing.

The Stradivarius hit Welkers Canyon and found some nice yellowfin and mahi both on the chunk and the troll. Farther south, the tuna bite was off, but the tilefishing was red hot with fish to 42 pounds taken.

School-sized bluefin are still being taken around Stellwagen, but the waters off Chatham have mostly gone quiet. For commercial fishermen, the Whiting Grounds in Cape Cod Bay have given up a couple giants recently.

Bluefin have moved back within 25 miles of the New Jersey coast according to Captain Jim Freda of Shore Catch Guide Service. The only challenge has been finding a day to get out after them.

The On The Water staff is made up of experienced anglers from across the Northeast who fish local waters year-round. The team brings firsthand, on-the-water experience and regional knowledge to coverage of Northeast fisheries, techniques, seasonal patterns, regulations, and conservation.
