Not too many boats were able to fish, thanks to the weather, but by Wednesday, conditions had improved and some boats got out after some big game and connected.
After a few days at the dock, Captain Eric Stewart made his way back to the tuna grounds on Wednesday where he found a 55-inch bluefin and a good-size mako shark around the BB Buoy. Foul weather kept tuna tanglers on shore this week. Wednesday was the first fishable day in some time. There are still tuna around Cape Cod, however, and should be for another couple weeks.
According to Dave Arbeitman at the Reel Seat in Brielle, NJ, the bite in the northern canyons has transformed to mainly a day bite, both on the troll and chunk. They are still having success at the Hudson with yellowfin and longfin tuna. The Virginia wreck has been giving up nice 70- to 100-pound class yellowfin on both chunk and troll. Most of the other northern canyons have had good amounts of activity.
Stretch at Stella Maris in Brooklyn has also heard reports of good numbers of yellowfin still hunting the east and west walls of Hudson Canyon.

Fished the BB buoy on 10/20.
Lots of whales, birds, dolphins, sharks etc.
Marked many tuna but never saw one jump.
First fish hit early, around 7:15.
Around noon it blew up and chased us back in.
