New York Fishing Report 11-8-2012

Once again there wasn’t much fishing on Long Island this week as most fishermen continued to deal with power outages and gas shortages, with problems compounded by the snow and winds brought by winter storm Athena. Fortunately, it looks like many shops are up and running some fishermen are finding time to get out.

Hudson Park Bait and Tackle is ready to provide anglers with whatever they need to get in on the red hot LI Sound blackfish bite happening right now.

The LI Outdoorsman has a huge amount of hurricane supplies in stock including lanterns, propane stoves, waders, batteries, and they are open from 7am to 7pm on weekdays and 6am to 6pm on the weekends.

Cow Harbor in Northport is ready to rock. Chasing Tails is fully stocked with both live and frozen bait.

Scott at East End Bait and Tackle is back in business and reported that there are still stripers out there for anglers able to wet a line.

The blackfish bite in the mid-Sound area has been good according to John at Terminal Tackle.

The party boats are sailing, and doing extremely well with blackfish. The Island Current Fleet at City Island is limiting out on most trips fishing 30 to 60 feet of water. Celtic Quest is also seeing full boat limits on blackfish.

In Pulaski, the steelhead run is good. Anglers are catching fish every day, and it seems as some fresh fish are moving into the river on a daily basis.

Best Bet for the Weekend

While most Long Islanders are still waiting for power, fishing isn’t at the forefront of their minds. But if you want to wet a line, the choice is easy—hop aboard a party boat and get after some blackfish.  The bite is lights out right now, with some double-digit fish mixing in.
