Cape Cod Bluefin Tuna Report

Tuna fishing slowed again this week. The stronger tides as a result of the new moon could be the reason for the tuna slowdown. Dan at the Hook Up said Captain Eric Stewart spent the day trolling east of Chatham on Tuesday, and had just one fish hit, but it spit the hook soon after.

Long Island Offshore Report

It finally looks like a weather window has opened up for blue water anglers this weekend. While trips south to the canyons have been spotty at best, Whitewater Outfitters in Hampton Bays reports shark fishing as good as it gets. Fish from 100-220 pounds are the norm with a nice mix of mako and thresher sharks. The guys recommend targeting the 20-30 fathom curve for the best chance of success. Reports of sporadic Bluefin have also filtered in but there does not seem to be any method the madness of these fish.

New Jersey Offshore Report

Captain Rich Wilkowski reports hearing good things from the Washington Canyon. Bluefin and Yellowfin with the occasional Big Eye Tuna are all being called in. One boat had a banner day with a report of four Big Eyes on a recent trip.

Dave Arbeitman of the Reel Seat in Brielle reports that the northern canyons are all quiet, with most of the tuna bite taking place from the Baltimore south through the Washington Canyons. Closer to home, Dave says that there are still more than enough thresher and mako sharks hanging around for some strong action.

Bill from Fin-Atics Marine Supply in Ocean City says that the boats haven’t been leaving the docks because of poor conditions but those who find a window have been rewarded with blue fin and some nice big eye. Weather, most specifically wind, has put somewhat of a damper on the offshore report, but he believes that will turn around shortly.
