Striped Bass Migration Status April 29, 2014

New Jersey

  • Stripers have been spawning in Delaware River. A giant striped bass estimated at 60 pounds was caught and released 10 days ago. (photo)
  • Keeper stripers are moving into back bays of Southern New Jersey.
  • Sean Feeney landed a 33-pound striper off Northern New Jersey. (photo)
  • Schools of keeper-sized and bigger stripers are moving into Raritan Bay, where jigging and clams are catching fish.

New York

  • Keeper stripers are migrating farther east along the South Shore of Long Island, but the North Shore is still quiet.
  • Large stripers are being caught off Staten Island and up the Hudson River, where the fish are staging to spawn.

New England

  • Fresh fish are beginning to mix in with holdovers in the Connecticut Rivers.
  • Fresh schoolie stripers have been reported along the Rhode Island Coast.
  • Fresh schoolie stripers were caught this weekend in Mount Hope Bay and in the Fairhaven to Onset area.
  • Holdovers to 40 inches have been active in Cape Cod estuaries, and reports of fresh fish are expected any day. (photo)
  • Boston Harbor has some holdover fish, and fresh fish are about 1-2 weeks away
