Monomoy & Race Point Report

OTW reader Jim Egan gives a quick recap on the action at Monomoy & Race Point this past weekend.

We went to southern tip of the Monomoy rips on Saturday and found no stripers there. Ended up sea bass fishing in Nantucket sound instead. It was a little slower than in the past few weeks but still decent sized keepers were had.

On Sunday we went to Race Point and the stripers are definitely there. We caught 36 stripers vertical jigging. Most fish ranged from 15-30 pounds. There were tons of boats out there and everyone was catching. Lots of people snapping wire line and trolling umbrella rigs but the vertical jigging was producing extemely well.

Jim, what were you verticle jigging with at Race Point? Butterfly jigs, A-4’s, Ronzis, what? Were the fish on the drop off?

All along the drop off from Wood End by the bath house to Race Point, mark some fish and go for it Big bio mass of big fish. Snapping wire along the inside of the pot line also.

We were using butterfly jigs and A 27 diamond jigs with Chartreuse Green tails. An A 17 would work well too. yes to all of what Chris said and also in the rips at race point. There was a huge biomass of fish – lots of boat traffic. It felt like we commercial fishing off Chatham.
