Boston Flounder Report | July 8, 2014

verall, the flounder fishing in 2014 has been pretty good. Some days have been excellent, some days less so but "very good" is how I have to rate the season. Today however, was "EPIC"! How do I define that? Large fish in large numbers.

Overall, the flounder fishing in 2014 has been pretty good. Some days have been excellent, some days less so but “very good” is how I have to rate the season. Today however, was “EPIC”! How do I define that? Large fish in large numbers….

We only anchored in one spot and as soon as the chum started to work (5 minutes) we had big fish coming up steadily. I saw the way it was going and I commented to everyone that they were likely to see the biggest fish of the year today and sure enough, Adam Hassman of Boston took the best flounder in the state of Massachusetts (to date) that weighed 4 pounds, 8 ounces on the official scale at Fore River Bait and Tackle.

Rick just got the scale in and certified so I’ve been dying to try it out!

The fish were so gangbusters today that we only killed a few deeply hooked fish under 15 inches with most in the 15 to 17 inch range. Adam’s fish went a bit over 21 inches and should win the State Derby in the winter flounder division.

Note that I have 3 spots still available for July 22nd’s open boat and 4 spots available on July 24th. At 1115am on the 24th the boat will be pulled from the water to get her ready for Westport. Call or email with questions!
