2014 was a BLAST! Today we had our final flounder trip out of Quincy and the boat is now out of the water and stopping at the mechanics for a week before she splashes in Westport on August 1st.
We had only 35 flounder today for 6 guys and the bite got tougher as the water got colder. We started with 61 degrees and by the top of the flood tide we were at 57. Too cold for the end of July!
As most of you know, we had the two biggest flounder of the year in the past 16 days but today we topped them all with a 4 pound, 12 ounce flounder that was hardly 20 inches long (19 3/4)! The thing was built like a Mack Truck and I only wish that some of the 21-22 inch fish we had earlier were better built.
The big fish today went to “new guy” Scott Filion of Cohassett-Congratulations Scott!
Yesterday we went bass fishing and left the dock at 5am, jigged a dozen mackerel then headed off to Minots Light then worked our way back to Graves Light and then on to Revere. Not a bite! To say the bass fishing has been “weak at best” in Boston Harbor would be an understatement.
I look forward to seeing you all in Westport next month-stay safe!
