Stripers & Bluefish – We received good reports of bass up to 54 inches this past week. Some decent reports came from the Lower Thames river, Long Sand Shoal, Bartletts and Clinton reefs. However, the action was not consistent. Bunker are hanging in the mouths of the tidal rivers. Go snag some and send them back out. The bass and blues are crushing live lined bunker and bunker chunks. Bluefish have been chasing bunker in the mouths of the rivers and out on the reefs as well. Anglers are hooking up with some great bass, but a lot of people are saying that the numbers just aren’t here this year. Pictured is Angel Suarez with a cow from the mouth of the CT river!

Fluke & Seabass – A lot of shorts are being caught but good numbers of keepers are also being reported. The current was ripping last weekend due to the full moon. A lot of anglers had fun trying to hold bottom with 12oz+ sinkers. Finding calmer water was key. Some productive spots include Black point, Long Sand Shoal and New Haven harbor. Bucktails tipped with squid produced some good fish with white being the go to color. Seabass have been reported as being a bit of a nuisance when targeting other species. Anglers are limiting out quick, but have to sort through a bunch of shorts to do so. Your classic hi-low rig baited with squid or clam strips is the way to go. Fish are still being found in 80-100 feet of water on rock piles. Pictured is Bill K, Brian P and Dan F with some nice fluke and seabass they caught while aboard Lucky Hook Charters.

Bass – Flippin’ soft plastics is still very much effective. Good largemouth have been reported from Candlewood, Bantam, Shenipshit and Saltonstall. Smallmouth action has been just as good on Candlewood, Zoar and the upper Housatonic. Although the Housatonic is now at 2,600+cfs and rising due to all the rain. The days have been hot and humid. By mid day the action can be very slow. If you want to catch some lunkers, night time is your best bet. Top water action at night has been producing some solid bass. Pictured is D.J. Juan Bond Casella with a chunky largemouth.
