S. Berks County
It was a hot and muggy weekend at Blue Marsh Lake with plenty of boaters waterskiing or just anchoring up and swimming. Fishing was decent with some nice bass caught on crank baits, and many catfish taken on worms and liver.
It was good to see many kids enjoying the day catching panfish, and a few anglers fishing from kayaks and PWCs.
Do not forget to add PFBC Kaercher Creek Lake in Hamburg to your upcoming bass fishing trips. If you have not heard, the recent PFBC fisheries survey found a high density of Largemouth Bass on the lake, which should make for great fishing. The lake is regulated as HYPERLINK “http://www.fishandboat.com/fishpub/summary/bigbass.html” Big Bass Waters (15 inch minimum size/creel limit of 4 bass per day), and it is restricted to electric motors only.

Bucks County
Lake Luxembourg – Anglers are catching panfish on earthworms under bobbers and Largemouth Bass on crankbaits and large rubber worms. Fish early in the morning or in the evening. The fishing action is slow through the day in the summer heat. Cast far away from the shoreline when fishing for panfish, or you will catch many of the small Green Sunfish that tend to swallow small hooks.
Lancaster County
Susquehanna River – Anglers report that Smallmouth Bass are hitting well below the Holtwood Dam on plastics baits (tubes, beavers, crayfish patterns) and crankbaits in crayfish colors.
Philadelphia County
Schuylkill River – Try below the Art Museum along the Schuylkill Banks Trail for Channel Catfish with liver, nightcrawlers or bagels on the bottom. Flathead Catfish will take live panfish.
Be prepared to have the equipment to haul these large fish up over the concrete walls along the river. The Channel Catfish can be caught here during daylight hours when it is safer to be along the trail.
