Saltwater – Good striper reports have come from Six Mile, Long Sand Shoal, Clinton and Hatchetts. There are still a lot of of quality fish being caught every day. Live lining Scup and Bunker is the way to go, but don’t forget about eels during the night shift. Pictured is Tommy Fucini with an absolute monster bass on his kayak at night. Block Island remains hot with the bigger and better reports coming from there. The harbors are seeing good action as some smaller but decent sized blues are chasing bunker around. The lower Connecticut river and mouth still have good schools over bunker around and some larger bluefish have been caught in that area. The chopper blues come out to play closer to shore at night. Good fish have also been pulled from The Race and Gulf Beach. Last weekend anglers were on the hunt for big blues during the WICC 600 Greatest Bluefish Tournament On Earth 2014. The contest ended with the winning fish weighing in at exactly 17.00 pounds. Snapper blue fishing is still doing well in most harbors and tidal creeks. Crabbing is excellent right now, they are big and plentiful.

The best reports we received came from the DEEP dock, lower Connecticut River, North cove and the Lieutenant river. Scup (Porgy) fishing is still hot. Good quality and quantity of these tasty fish are being reported from both boat and land. Scup have been caught on most reefs along with seabass. The action is hot and decent fish were reported. It just happened to be a lot of smaller keeper sized fish and nothing huge. Fluke reports have been a bit slow for us as of late. A lot of anglers are take trips for a chance at some monster Montauk fluke. A lot of anglers are also heading to Block Island not just for the excellent fluke and seabass fishing, but for a chance at some mammoth striped bass. Freshwater – Bass fishing is still going strong and the same tactics that have worked all summer long are still producing. Flippin’ soft plastics into thick, weedy cover and dragging frogs on top of it is what works during the day. Topwater is your best bet after dark. Solid largemouth have come from Candlewood, Saltonstall, Shenipsit and Bantam. The smallmouth bite is doing just as well on Candlewood, Squantz, CT river and Lillinonah. Pictured is Shannon Mallette and James Mercier with some quality Candlewood lake bronze backs!

Pike fishing is doing well in coves and feeder streams around the state. The Connecticut river, Lillinonah and Zoar were the top producers with a report of a 37″ pike from Lillinonah. The summer time Walleye bite has been great lately. Excellent reports have come from Squantz, Saugatuck Reservoir, Saltonstall and Gardner lake. Pictured is Jason Koczeniak and Jake Moreland with a great pair of eyes out of Squantz. Fishing has been excellent on some of these cooler nights. September and Autumn are right around the corner and the fishing is just going to get better and better as the weeks go on.
