Northern New Jersey Fishing Report for 8-21-2014

Atlantic Highlands

Jay from Julian’s stated Fluke are being caught in large numbers. Also many Croakers, Spots & Porgies are being caught in the bay.

Bayonne

According to the crew at True World Tackle, the Fluke fishing in the bay to NY still strong. Snapper Blues and some larger ones mixed in are plentiful.

Belmar

Pete at Parker Pete’s said Fluke fishing is still strong with some really good sized fish mixed in. Plenty of Mahi Mahi being caught offshore.

Capt. Jim from Skylarker Sportfishing said the Fluke fishing still remains good. Bluefish are making their presence known in the ocean with fish up to 16 pounds being caught.

Chris on the Big Mohawk said Fluke fishing is still strong with fish being caught between 8 to 9 pounds. Bucktail & Gulp combos are still producing best catches. The Mohawk is sailing everyday 7am to 3pm.

Karen from the Royal Miss Belmar said Fluke fishing along the ocean structures has been great with some really nice fish in the mix. Also, the big Blues are here with some fish weighing as much as 20 pounds. The Royal Miss Belmar is sailing everyday 7:30am – 2:30pm.

Capt Rich of the Golden Eagle said the Fluke fishing is still hot. Long strip baits or bucktails are working well.

Capt. Ron on the Capt Cal II said the Fluke fishing is great with fishing being taken up to 8.5 pounds. Sea Bass fishing is strong with some nice fish mixed in. Capt Call II is sailing everyday 7:30am – 3:30pm and charters are available from 3:30pm – 10pm.

Bound Brook

Branden from Efinger’ssaid he is happy with the Fluke fishing as the size and numbers are increasing weekly. Fishing for Blues is also getting better each day with some nice sized fish mixed in. Some are even showing up in the surf.

Bradley Beach

Mark at The Bait Shop said the Fluke fishing in Shark River has been great and some Triggerfish mixed in. Snapper Blues are all over and being caught on poppers and small metal in the inlets and bays.

Brielle

Eric at The Reel Seat told us the Hudson Canyon is producing Yellowfin and Big Eye Tuna.  The Little Italy is giving up some good catches of bluefin and mahi mahi as well.

Capt Dave on the Jenny Lee Sportfishing reports his last two trips produced Yellow Fin and Long Fin Tuna up to 70 pounds. For Charters please call 908-963-3977.

Capt. Ken from the Big Kid said Mahi Mahi and Blue Fin Tuna are extremely cooperative. Also big Bluefish being caught. There is a lot of action inside the 30 mile zone.

Phil at the Tackle Box said Snappers are all over the place, small metal and poppers are very productive. Cocktail Blues are also showing up along with Porgies.

Keyport

Joe at Joey’s Bait & Tackle reports Fluke fishing in Raritan bay has been very good. Snapper Blues and cocktail Blues are thick in the bay, and are being caught easily with small metals on light tackle.

Chris from the Keyport Basin reports Fluke fishing is still Hot! Some impressive weigh-ins have been weighed in this week.

Lake Hopatcong

Lou from Dow’s Bait & Tackle said the Stripers along with Smallmouth Bass being caught off the Points. Some nice Pickerel also being caught.

Laurence Harbor

Joe from Tackle US was happy with the Fluke fishing this week and there were some nice fish weighed in. Fish up to 8 pounds hit the scales. The reefs have been red hot.

Mark from Mariners Mart said Snapper Blues are in big time. Poppers and small metal are the ticket. Crabbing has also been very good in the bays.

Robbinsville

Frank at Harry’s Adventure said Fluke fishing is Hot! Some nice sized Fluke being caught along with great numbers. Snapper Blues are abundant, and poppers are the way to go for catching them.

Sea Bright

Tom at Giglios said the Fluke fishing is good, but Snapper Blue fishing is off the charts. Crabbing is great with some really big blue claws being caught in the Navesink River.
