Here are a few wise words from two of the team members who competed in Poland:
“What we have preached time and time again is that this is a consistent team effort that leads to our success.” – Hunter Hoffler
“…I can really say you’re all like brothers to me. Team mentality prevails every time and we showed it again.” – Cam Chioffi
Foster Joseph Sayers Dam – This time of year crappies tend to hit the best during the week when the boat and angler traffic slows down. Anglers fishing at depths 6-10 feet are having the most luck catching crappie from shore.
A local angler stated he is catching crappie at depths between 6 – 10 feet, using minnows and a few split shot under a slip bobber. Slip bobbers provide great presentation of your bait at water depths traditional bobber rigs can’t reach. They are easy to use, cast and store. Most bait shops and super centers carry these types of bobbers. Go out and give them a try!
PA Angler and Boater article about slip bobbers – Check out page 14 of the 1984 PA Angler, Nick Hrmoniak wrote a great introduction to the slip bobber technique! http://fishandboat.com/anglerboater/75archives/1980s/1984arch/05may1984.pdf
Lower Buffalo Run – Anglers are catching trout using scuds. Most trout are between 8 and 12 inches.

Northern Columbia and Northern Luzerne Counties
Susquehanna River – Fishing has been hot the past few weeks. Anglers have been bringing in catfish with chicken livers, shrimp and nightcrawlers. Smallmouth bass have been taking anything that moves as well. They have been especially aggressive for anglers using top-water presentations in the evening! Their efforts are often answered with an explosion on the surface.
Harveys Lake: Anglers have had nice catches of panfish as well as some nice sized largemouth bass.
Lake Jean: Anglers have been hooking into some great perch. The key here is finding their schools. So don’t be afraid to change locations on the lake if you not finding them in your current location.
Harris Pond & Frances Slocum – Both of these lakes have not been producing well for most over the past few weeks. Algae conditions and water temperatures have been making it hard to find cooperative fish.
Harveys Creek – While the water is low and clear throughout the stream, the opportunity for great trout fishing is still available to those who are willing to fish this stream appropriately. The fish are very spooky, so make sure to use stealth when approaching the stream, wearing dark colored clothes and making sure your presentation is gentle. The trout were taking dead drifted nymphs this past week in the evenings. A size 16 psycho prince nymph was the fly of choice and the trout were taking them with reckless abandon. This is the time of year to really practice your lure presentation skills!
