Western Bradford & Sullivan County

As ice anglers begin to get prepared for the ice fishing season, it is a good idea to revisit ice safety.  Before setting out remember, don’t ice fish alone and always closely monitor ice conditions.  Please review the following ice safety chart and ice safety reminders, to ensure a fun and safe ice fishing season!

N. Susquehanna/E. Bradford Counties

Poor ice conditions are limiting anglers. Anglers looking to wet a line in Bradford County may find the Susquehanna River their best bet. The Susquehanna has plenty of open water offering shore fishing or possibly a chilly boat ride.

Ice fishing season is just around the corner. Just a few more cold snaps and you can break out the ice fishing gear! Don’t forget to purchase your 2015 license: www.fishandboat.com

McKean County

Bradford City Number Three Reservoir: The Reservoir was stocked with Brook and Brown Trout on December 15, 2014. Get out and catch a few!

Cameron County

County stream levels are perfect for fishing. Anglers are catching trout using spinners, streamers and/or minnows.

Currently there is no ice on County lakes; however, the open water is providing great fishing opportunities. Anglers are catching Crappie in deep pockets of the lake near woody debris. Minnows and jigs fished just above submerged brush/woody debris are working best.

Clearfield County

Parker Dam – Clearfield County will receive its final trout stocking for 2014 on December 17th at Parker Dam State Park.  Currently the lake has some skim ice. This may present issues for anglers, but the water is open near the causeway and areas of the shoreline.  PFBC will try to spread the trout out by using buckets.

Center County

Spring Creek – Anglers are catching trout using olive or black streamers and size F05 rapalas with a black back and yellow belly. Cast across stream, let the fly/lure swing and begin stripping in…then wait for the take!

Katie Nihart and Dawn Peachey caught quite a few trout while fishing with fellow co-workers Dave Nihart and John Sinclair on Spring Creek. Pictured here is a big Rainbow Trout that added to a great day of fishing. Several trout between 12-18” were caught. The successful lure was a size F05 rapala with a black back and yellow belly. Congratulations to Katie and Dawn on their great catch!

Penns Creek – Anglers are catching trout using size 6 tungsten bead golden stonefly and size 8 tungsten bead woven green weenie flies. The green weenie is working best. One angler landed 8 trout during late morning hours. Most of the trout caught measured between 13 and 17 inches with one measuring 19”.

19” Brown Trout caught on a size 8 tungsten bead woven green weenie. Congratulations Allan!!

Clinton County

Fishing Creek – Anglers are catching trout using olive or black streamers in the morning. Egg patterns are also working well. Late morning to early afternoon seems to be the best time to fish. The recent snow melt has slowed things down a bit.

Tioga County

County lakes were beginning to ice over last week, but with the recent warm-up the ice has receded. Hopefully the temperatures will dip over the next few weeks to begin building ice again.

Erie County—West

Walnut Creek Access – The fish seem to be holding at the Chutes, the Tubes, and at Route 20 on Walnut Creek.  Park at the Gun Club if you want to fish at the Route 20 location.  Quite a bit of small ones are being caught down near the lake on Walnut Creek.  Upper Elk Creek has been good too.  With the recent snow melt off and rain, the tributaries are running high and muddy. Fishing this weekend should be decent if the area doesn’t get any more rain.
