Southeastern Pennsylvania Fishing Report | December 11, 2014

Berks County

Do not let the winter weather stop you from getting out and catching fish. Crappies and bass are hitting jigs (try multi-colored) at Blue Marsh Lake, and you have a good chance at picking up a nice striper.

Brown Trout are striking mealworms at Hay Creek, and the Tulpehocken Creek and Scott’s Run Lake are other top choices for trout.

Lake Ontelaunee has been hit or miss for crappies along Rte. 73, but windy days are generally the best conditions for crappies at the lake. When ice does start to form on the lakes, please wait until it is safe! Remember to wear a life jacket out ice fishing and take a pair of safety awls. There is more ice safety information on our website here: http://fishandboat.com/safety.htm

Do not forget that life jackets are required to be worn on all boats under 16 feet, and on all kayaks and canoes from Nov. 1 to April 30.

Fishing licenses are the perfect gift this holiday season, and you will not even have to wrap it! Buy it online here: https://www.pa.wildlifelicense.com/start.php

Happy Holidays!

W. Philadelphia County/S. Montgomery County

Fishing action has dropped off markedly with the arrival of cold weather in the area. Some catfish are still taking baits (chicken livers, worms, pepperoni) on the Schuylkill River. There are still trout in Norristown Farm Park. The trout are some Thanksgiving holiday leftovers from a recent stocking by a local sportsmen’s club.

Lancaster County

In the interest of public safety, the Safe Harbor Stoplog Bridge will be closed to the public beginning on December 10, 2014 through January 23, 2015 due to work activities taking place on the bridge.  All other surrounding public areas will remain open to fishing and recreation.
