Pennsylvania Fishing Report - February 12, 2015

Northeastern Region

Columbia and Luzerne Counties

Local anglers have been facing some real hit and miss action as of late. Frances Slocum and Harris Pond have been the only waters putting out consistent catches of fish.  Harris Pond anglers have found the Bluegills plentiful and they have been going home to the pan with some regularity as have a few yellow perch. Anglers are putting some pickerel and a few yellow perch on top of the ice at Lake JeanBriar Creek Lake anglers haven’t had much success but the crappies that are caught are absolute monsters.  Make sure to use large baitfish when trying to put big White Crappies in the bucket.

Wayne County

The water is frozen district-wide. Anglers have been doing well using nightwalkers for trout at Long Pond.  Afternoon jigging is reportedly productive for bluegill and perch.  The rare nighttime hard-water anglers are being rewarded with some nice crappie. Duck Harbor Pond is providing some nice bass and pickerel using tip-ups and minnows.

Northwest Region

Crawford County

Canadohta Lake

Anglers are reporting a few crappies and Bluegills are being caught.

Woodcock Lake

Anglers are reporting a few Yellow Perch and an occasional Walleye are being caught.

Woodcock Creek (below the dam)

Anglers are reporting some decent Walleyes are being caught.

Sugar Lake

Anglers are reporting some Bluegills and crappies are being caught.

Eastern Erie County

Area Waters

Anglers are reporting catches of panfish on grubs, wax worms, and minnows with small jig heads. Vary your depth and jig colors. The Steelhead streams are iced over.

Lake Pleasant

Don’t forget Lake Pleasant is open to year round fishing; however no trout may be taken or possessed on this water from March 1st through the opening day of trout season 8:00 am April 18th.

Forest County

Area Waters

Anglers have been successful ice fishing on Tionesta Lake, Allegheny River Reservoir, and Chapman Lake.  Anglers are catching Bluegill and Yellow Perch on Tionesta Lake near the marina.  Anglers ice fishing on Chapman Lake are catching trout near the boat launch and dam area. Ice fishing anglers on the Allegheny River Reservoir have been successful in Willow Bay catching Northern Pike and Walleye. Anglers should wear a life jacket and have ice awls available while fishing on the ice.

NOTICE to trout anglers who fish Ross Run: The Children Only Area is now permanent and can ONLY be fished by children 12 years of age and younger, including the opening day of trout season. In past years, the area has been open to adults under the temporary permit.

Venango County

Area trout stocking info

Trout stocking in Venango County begins on March 6th. Individuals wishing to attend are urged to reference the 2015 TROUT STOCKING SCHEDULE link found on the agency’s home page, at www.fishandboat.com, in order to verify the appropriate date and time of your favorite Venango County stream(s).

Allegheny River

The river has frozen over in many spots throughout the county. Shore/anchor ice is UNSAFE!  Occasional Walleye harvests continue to be reported throughout the Oil City area.

Justus Lake (Two Mile Run Reservoir)

Bluegill and Yellow Perch are being reported down lake of the upper launch.

Fishing pressure has been on the increase towards the dam from the lower launch… limited hook-ups have been reported.

Rainbow Trout have been caught throughout the lake.

Kahle Lake

Fishing has been slowing down over the last few weeks with limited hook ups being reported.

Anglers are reminded that KAHLE LAKE is governed under the Big Bass Regulations. Also, a new year is upon us; so, you’ll need either a 2015 or valid multi-year license.

French Creek

The USGS depth gage in Utica reflects a current water level of 3’-09”. Angling activity continues to be light. No hook-ups have been reported.

Oil Creek

Oil Creek has frozen over in many spots throughout the county. Shore/anchor ice is UNSAFE!

Northcentral Region

Cameron County

George B. Stevenson Dam: Anglers are catching Crappie and Bluegill using jigs tipped with wax worms.

Clinton County-

Alvin R. Bush Dam: Anglers are catching Crappie and other panfish using wax worms and minnows.

Elk County

Laurel Run Reservoir: Anglers are catching various pan fish using minnows and jigs tipped with maggots.

Ridgway Reservoir: Anglers are catching  panfish using jigs tipped with wax worms and maggots.  They are also catching fish using live minnows.

Jefferson County

Cloe Dam: Anglers are catching Rainbow Trout with jigging spoons.

Kyle Lake: Anglers are catching Pike on live shiners and fathead minnows. One lucky angler caught a Pike measuring 31 inches! Anglers are also catching Bluegill using jigs tipped with wax worms.

Snyder County

Walker Lake: Anglers are catching Crappie and Bluegill using jigs tipped with wax worms or maggots.  A few anglers are catching the occasional Pike.

REMINDER: The PFBC does not monitor ice thickness. Ice thickness and conditions can vary greatly across the lake and across the state. Use caution as you head out onto the ice. A life jacket and a set of ice awls can be extremely important if you fall though the ice.
