Craig Rogers of Steelfin Angling and On The Water Contributor, Captain Ed Berger of Tackle Direct were fishing Ocean City Reef for fluke when a school of three cobia approached the boat. Craig flipped out a black Got Stryper and the first cobia ate. During the fight, the other two stayed nearby, and after the first cobia was in the boat, Ed cast out and hooked a second, larger one. It seems cobia encounters are increasing in the Northeast, so if you’re hitting the reefs for fluke this summer, it might pay to have a stout rod rigged with a bucktail or soft plastic, just in case.

are cobia edible?
Delicious!
Excellent job Captain’s! I have seen a few of them but catching has been a different story.
