NY Metro/LI Sound Kayak Fishing Report – July 10, 2015

Yakkin’ Doormats

Fluke fishing has been good, all trips are producing keepers and last Wednesday my client Mario bucktailed up a 31” 11.14lb fluke on my trip! Fish was a monster and fluke this size are no easy feat from a kayak. From hookset to net job, it’s tough! I also had a 28” fish on this trip. There are a lot of 18”-19” fish around right now mixed in with the short action. Both tides are producing nicely now due to the great water quality in Jamaica Bay, NY Harbor, and Western North shore.

Striped Bass

The western north shore still has keeper size stripers to be had. Tube N Worming in rocks is the way to go. Shorts are around in good numbers as well. If you are feeling like plugging, top water in and around rocks at sunrise and sunset is a good bet to draw a few strikes from the bass as well.

Porgy’s

Looks like there are good numbers of them moving into Jamaica Bay and the Western North Shore. They were bombing my fluke rig on Sunday, and I also wormed up a few in some boulder fields. Good action for the kids or someone just getting started out in kayak fishing. I like to locate them trolling tubes in general, then pick them off with bucktails tipped with sandworms or very small diamond jigs.
