Northeast Region

Fishing and boating as a whole are still surprisingly slow in many places. It may be a great time to hit some of your favorite spots that tend to get crowded, as you may even have it to yourself!

Activity has been slowly picking up on the Susquehanna River in Susquehanna County. This portion of the River is about 13 miles long and has several launch points. A popular trip is from PFBC’s Great Bend Launch on Harmony Road to PFBC’s Hallstead Access. This is approximately 2-3 hour float trip and possibly longer if you decide to fish or explore the islands along the way. Wearable lifejackets are required for everybody and launch permits are required for unpowered boat at PFBC Access areas. This is a really great trip for families, scout, or church groups! This area is under-utilized so pack up your gear and come on out.

Northcentral Region

McKean County

Water temperatures are up (it is July after all), so the fishing has slowed somewhat. The Walleye in the lake have moved to cooler & deeper waters. The trout stream water levels have been good all summer, so there still are stocked trout surfacing in the evenings. The fly anglers have been having fun with them!

A reminder – persons utilizing canoes and kayaks, and all boats under 16 ft., are required to wear life jackets when underway on the Allegheny Reservoir – that is Federal law, as well as State law.

Finally, as we are seeing more paddleboards on the Reservoir this summer than ever before, we’d like to remind everyone that you need a life jacket (and should be wearing it) when you are out on these devices. They are boats!

Cameron and Clinton Counties

Bass are biting good; and crawdads have been the bait of choice. Currently, the waters are a little high, but they should come back down by the weekend. There are still trout in our streams, especially in the Approved Trout Waters. The small traditional streams are doing well, along with the bigger streams, such as Driftwood and Kettle. Crawdads are also working on Brown and Rainbow Trout, as well as on Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass. And, don’t forget about the Channel Cats; they’re very active right now on the Sinnamahoning!
