While fishing for bluefish in the middle of Horseshoe Shoal the morning of July 13, we hooked into a large fish that did not fight at all like a bluefish. It stayed down and did not tire out. After an exciting 1/2-hour fight we netted it and identified it as a cobia! It measured 42 inches and weighed 17 pounds. It was very exciting for my son Brian and my 15- and 13-year-old grandsons Ben and Peter who had to team on the rod to bring in the fish. It had a fresh calico crab in its stomach when we cleaned it. It was caught on a lime-colored Andrus-ounce parachute jig in about 15 feet of water.

Great on the grill!
Getting warm weather fish up north that shows you how things are changing
