Northwest Region
Clarion County
Kahle Lake
Anglers report good numbers of nice Largemouth Bass and some big Bluegills.
Upper Clarion River
Anglers are still reporting good numbers of Smallmouth Bass and some trout. All boats, including canoes and kayaks, using the PFBC’s Gravel Lick Access Areas must be registered to use this facility.
Piney Dam
Anglers continue to report catching Channel Catfish in good numbers, a few Walleyes, and good numbers of Smallmouth Bass.
Allegheny River
Walleyes and Smallmouth Bass are still being reported near the Parker islands and the mouth of the Clarion River. All boats, including canoes and kayaks, using the PFBC’s Parker & Brady’s Bend Access Areas must be registered to use these facilities.
Erie County
Lake Erie
Anglers are reporting Yellow Perch being caught in 48 – 50 feet of water straight out of Walnut Creek and 38 – 45 feet off of Trout Run. The boat anglers are reporting bigger Yellow Perch compared to previous years. However, the numbers of limits seem to be down from previous years. Anglers targeting Walleye are going to the tip of the first trench and trolling west.
Northeast Region
Pike & Wayne Counties
Lake Wallenpaupack is in full swing, although many anglers are complaining the fish don’t want to cooperate; it seems warm water conditions have made some fish lethargic, fishing deeper water seems to be the key. Lake levels have dropped considerably over the summer and obstacles that were submerged early in the season have now broke the surface, in addition; two of the shoal buoys have either been removed or have drifted away: the shoal buoy in Martin’s Cove on the right as you enter the cove and the shoal marker at Burns Island. Both buoys should be replaced by Monday 8/10/15.
Water levels are low across the region and can make fishing more difficult. Anglers going out in the early morning and late afternoon/evening fishing are reporting success. Crappie have been very active with small jigs. Smallmouth Bass and Largemouth Bass are taking bigger jigs and crank baits at Prompton Dam and White Oak Pond. Some perch and walleye catches are being reported at Duck Harbor Pond and Long Pond.
The Lackawaxen River is still a good place to fish for trout but you need to pay attention to what is hatching on that particular day because that seems to be the only thing that they are hitting on. Other lake and ponds in the district are still good for panfish and pickerel. Some bass are beginning to get active again but mostly in deeper waters.
Boating is still very active and the weather and water temps are very warm. Please be safe and wear your PFD’s.
Northern Columbia and Luzerne Counties
Fishing in most area waterways has been hit or miss as of late. Frances Slocum still gives up smaller panfish with regularity and a nice Walleye here or there in the evening. Most walleye are being taken by folks targeting bass with stickbaits and diving lures. Harveys Lake continues to reward those who know where and how to fish for the big Browns.
Area residents are reminded that not only is it illegal to release non-native species in area waters, in many cases it also result in the released pet dying as the conditions are not natural to them or the have a serious impact on the animals naturally present.
Wyoming County
The Susquehanna River is at normal summer levels. There has not been as many anglers as usual for this time of year, perhaps due to the early summer conditions, but anglers can expect normal summer fishing from here on out. Lake Winola has been fishing very well, particularly for Largemouth Bass. Slot limits appear to have worked in establishing a population of larger size bass. Stevens Lake is over run with weeds, but anglers willing to deal with it are rewarded with good catches. Overall, results are typical of late season fishing in hot temperatures. Try to fish early in the mornings or later in the evening for the best fishing.
Northcentral Region
S. Clinton/W. Lycoming Counties
Pine Creek
The water on Pine Creek is low. Kayaking and canoeing will be difficult and may require portaging at multiple places. Anglers, though, are still catching many trout and picking up some Smallmouth Bass.
Union County
Halfway Lake
DCNR has submitted a drawdown permit for Halfway Lake from September 21 – October 5, 2015 for dam or spillway repairs. Maximum depth is 6.5’ and they propose to lower it by 5’. We will update this information as it becomes available to us.
Southeastern Region
Berks County
Lake Ontelaunee
With the heat wave sweeping through the state, the Largemouth Bass weren’t hitting much, but recent rain and lower humidity has triggered the bass to come out of the depths and feed. Try working plastic worms or crank baits through the lily pads. If you’re out in the heat of the day, try fishing in the depths of the quarry hole off Rte. 73.
