Pennsylvania Fishing Report – December 24, 2015

Anglers are reporting great success trout, steelhead and walleye fishing in the region.

Northwest Region

Erie County

Steelhead Tributaries

With the recent snow melt off and the recent rain the Erie area received, the tributary streams were blown out this week. This should bring a fresh batch of Steelhead into the streams for the holiday season. Minnows and single eggs were producing before the rain.

Presque Isle Bay

Anglers are reporting catching nice size Yellow Perch in Marina Lake.

North and South Pier

Anglers are reporting Walleye and Burbot still being caught due to the recent warmer weather. Walleyes are being caught on large shiners and Burbot are being caught on cut bait.

Crawford County

Pymatuning Reservoir

Crappies are being caught throughout the lake especially in 12 to 16 feet and over brush. Live baits and soft plastics seem to both be working well.

French Creek

Anglers are targeting Walleye by throwing a floating jig head tipped with a shiner. Anglers are fishing the current breaks within various sections of French Creek.

Northeast Region

Western Bradford & Sullivan Counties

Anglers are reporting great success trout fishing on Muncy Creek. Trout are actively feeding and striking well. Successful anglers have been using a gold beaded spinner to bring several nice trout to the net.

N. Susquehanna/E. Bradford Counties

With ice non-existent across the region several anglers have decided to retrieve boats out of storage and take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather. Anglers are doing well on the Susquehanna River but make sure to keep an eye on the river flows as there is a lot of rain in the forecast.

Southeastern Region

The 2016 Pennsylvania Fishing Licenses are available to purchase, and a voucher for a fishing license makes a great stocking stuffer!

The ice fishing equipment can stay packed up in the garage or attic for a few more weeks, but the unseasonably warm temperatures provide the opportunity to get out boating & fishing on the open waters here in the Southeast Region. It is expected to reach 70 F or close to it on Christmas Eve. A reminder that the mandatory life jacket wears regulation is in effect for canoes, kayaks and boats less than 16 feet while underway or at anchor.

Happy Holidays!

Bucks County

Anglers are still getting the trout out of Lake Luxembourg in Core Creek County Park near Langhorne. Try wax worms and paste baits. Try the bridge area near the top of the lake around Woodbourne Road.

Philadelphia County

Trout are still in the Pennypack Creek, and there aren’t many anglers after them recently.
