Cape Cod Fishing Report - February 11, 2016

Some of the coldest temperatures of the winter will be hitting the Cape this weekend, but it won’t last long enough to provide much in the way of fishable ice.

Open water fishing produced well last weekend. Some anglers took advantage of Sunday’s weather to chase bass and pickerel, and found both species to be hungry. Fishermen reported catching pickerel up to 4 pounds in weight. The largest bass was in the 3-pound range.

Trout fishing was good as well. I walked the shoreline of Peters Pond over the weekend and caught a couple trout, including a nice-sized brown.

Best Bets for the Weekend

The weekend’s bitter cold may be best weathered indoors, unless you take a trip west or north to areas with fishable ice. If not, it’s looking like a great weekend to curl up with a copy of the February Issue of On The Water Magazine.

By next weekend, temperatures will be back in the 40s and it will be time to get back after some pickerel, bass, and trout.
