Lake Pleasant

Reminder: Stocked Trout Waters Open to Year Round Fishing (Lake Pleasant). These waters are open to fishing from March 1 through opening day of trout season; however no trout may be taken or possessed on these waters during this period.

Northeast Region

Northern Wayne County

The ice fishing season has been cut short! Most lakes and ponds have open water; the ice that remains is very unstable and deteriorating at a rapid pace. Anglers should begin preparing their gear for open water fishing.

On April 1st all seasons, sizes and creel limits will again apply to Miller Pond and White Oak Pond.

Southern Luzerne & Southern Colombia Counties

With the Susquehanna River running high, there has been little boat traffic on the water. Fishing pressure has been sporadic from shore, with few anglers reporting any noteworthy success. Successful anglers have been doing using live bait, salted minnows or liver.

Local Stocked Trout Waters are now closed and stocking across the district is underway. Anglers wishing to participate in those stockings are encouraged to check the website for dates and meeting times.
Trout season will open April 16, 2016 at 8:00am, so now is the time for a good maintenance session for all of last year’s equipment.

Mentored Youth Trout Day will occur in the district on April 09, 2016. Those wishing to participate are urged to review the information found on our website prior to heading out. More information can be found at: http://fishandboat.com/MentoredYouth.htm

THERE HAVE BEEN CHANGES TO REGULATIONS, REGARDING STOCKED TROUT WATERS, AND SPECIAL REGULATIONS FOR TROUT, THAT AFFECT ANGLERS FISHING WITHIN THE DISTRICT. PLEASE REVIEW THE SUMMARY BOOK PROVIDED WITH YOUR LICENSE, OR FOUND ON THE WEBSITE PRIOR TO HEADING OUT TO THE WATERWAYS.

Southern Wayne & Pike Counties

Ice conditions are no longer safe anywhere in the area. Anglers should consult their summaries to ensure the waters they intend to fish are not stocked trout waters and closed to fishing between March 1st and opening day of trout season.

Lackawanna County

Many of the counties lakes and ponds are now ice free. Maple Lake is mostly ice free and anglers were catching Largemouth Bass over the weekend. Curtis Reservoir has fishable areas but ice still remains on the reservoir. Elmhurst Reservoir is not fishable, plenty of ice still remains.

All approved trout Waters are closed to fishing until April 16, 2016 at 8:00 a.m.

Monroe County

With ice receding from shorelines on the private community lakes, a few shoreline anglers are venturing out to try their luck. The water is still cold though and fish seem to be a little sluggish and have a case of lock jaw. The warm weather this week should have the fish willing to bite.

Wyoming County

Anglers have not been fishing in area lakes and ponds since the ice melted. However, the conditions on the Susquehanna River have been good and anglers have recently caught walleye and muskellunge. Anglers should remember that if fishing in boat less than sixteen feet, a PFD (life jacket) must be worn by all occupants in the boat.

Northcentral Region

Across the region, warm air temperatures are cranking up aquatic insect hatches and fish activity for the spring!! With temperature fluctuations and rain predicted for the remainder of this week and this weekend, make sure you layer your clothing, pack your rain gear and be prepared to switch up your fishing game!

Anglers are catching trout using caddis larva patterns, beadhead pheasant tail patterns and a variety of streamer patterns.

Centre County

Spring Creek

Water levels and color are perfect for fishing! With the recent warm weather, Midges and Blue Wing Olives (BWO) are hatching during the mid-afternoon hours.

Anglers are catching trout using the following fly patterns: BWO nymphs and dry flies, cress bug, midge larvae and dry flies, olive scud and sow bug patterns.
