Pennsylvania Fishing Report – September 29, 2016

Anglers are reporting some nice Walleye and Smallmouth Bass are being caught.

Northwest Region

Erie County

Area Tributaries

Anglers are reporting a few Steelhead are in the popular spots along Walnut and Elk Creek. Pink Salmon continue to show up in many of the tributaries. Fishing charters throughout the summer were catching some nice Brown Trout so the tributaries should have some trophy Brown Trout in them this fall. Kayak anglers are fishing the mouths of the tributaries and Trout Run with limited success for Steelhead. The catch rate should increase once the Steelhead stack up in front of the tributaries. With the rain forecasted over the next few days, more Steelhead and Brown Trout could move into the streams.

Venango County

Allegheny River

Anglers are reporting some nice Walleye and Smallmouth Bass are being caught. Jigs, grubs, and stick baits seem to be getting the most strikes. With the colder weather approaching, please be cautious of the falling air and water temperatures. Fall is a great time to fish so grab a kayak, fishing gear, and a life jacket and explore what Pennsylvania has to offer.

Northcentral Region

Rain is finally in the forecast! Depending on how much rain the region gets over the next few days, fishing could be “reel” good over the weekend and/or early next week!

Clinton County

Fishing Creek

The water temperature is holding in the upper 50’s. The water is currently low and clear; however, that may change if the region gets the rain event predicted for later this week!

Anglers are catching trout in the early morning and late evening hours using nymphs (e.g. dark stone flies; prince nymph; pheasant tail nymph).

Trout are rising in the late evening hours to caddis, terrestrials and a few Blue Wing Olives. Patterns that are working include: tan caddis; blue wing olives; midges.

If the water levels begin to rise, make sure you have a few streamer patterns and/or worm patterns on hand.

Centre County

Spring Creek & Lower Bald Eagle Creek

Rain is predicted for later this week. If the region gets the predicted rainfall, good fishing could be right around the corner.

Currently the water is low and clear. The current water temperature is in the high 50’s.

Anglers are catching trout using a variety of dry fly and/or nymph patterns (e.g. tan caddis; midges; blue wing olives; green weenie; pheasant tail nymph; walt’s worm).

The best time to be on the water is early morning and late evening. Be patient and fish your favourite runs/holes thoroughly.

Bring along the streamers and/or worm patterns to fish during rain events!
