PA anglers are catching bass, yellow perch, bluegill and crappie using red worms, butter worms and live minnows.

Northwest Region

Crawford County

Conneaut Lake

Anglers are catching panfish and Largemouth Bass throughout the lake. Anglers are targeting the panfish on the north end of the lake. Pleasure boating is on the rise.

Pymatuning Reservoir

Anglers are catching crappies, Channel Catfish, Yellow Perch, Largemouth Bass, and Walleye. For panfish, anglers should target the shallow areas out to about 6 foot of water.

French Creek

Anglers are catching Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Northern Pike. Canoers and kayakers are reminded that they must have an unpowered registration or a launch permit to use PFBC launch areas along French Creek.

Mercer County

Lake Wilhelm

Anglers are catching Bluegills, crappies, and Largemouth Bass throughout the lake. Panfish are hitting live bait under a float. Wax, meal, or red worms have all been working lately.

Western Erie County

Walnut Creek

Anglers are catching Walleye out in front of the Walnut Creek Access Area. Night time fishing for Walleye is pretty good and the daytime has just now started. The Walleye are in shallow but there are a lot of little ones again this year. That is a good sign for future fishing. There will be some construction going on in the creek starting soon and will last for 3 weeks.

Eastern Erie County

Anglers are catching panfish out of Lake Pleasant, Union City Reservoir, and Howard Eaton Reservoir. Worms and minnows are the bait of choice. Most of the Walleye action is on the west side of the county. Smallmouth Bass are being caught from the W’s to East Avenue using soft plastics and jerk baits.

French Creek

French Creek has been heavily used by kayakers. Make sure to have your life jacket with you.

Fishing Creek

Despite warm weather, water temperature remains in the mid 50s. With rain events predicted over the next few days, water clarity and levels will fluctuate. Be prepared to switch up your game!

Anglers are catching trout using mayfly, stonefly and caddis nymphs(e.g. Frenchie #14-16; gold bead pheasant tail #12-18; Prince #12-16; swimming ISO nymph #10-12). Fish small nymphs mid-day, in the shallow riffles. Trout are rising sporadically mid-day into the evening hours.

Carry the following dry flies, just in case you see a few trout rising (e.g. Slate Drake #10-12; March Brown #12; midges #22-26, Bluewing Olives size #18-22, Tan Caddis #12-14).

Centre County

Foster Joseph Sayers Lake

Anglers are also catching trout using dry flies (e.g. tan caddis #14-16); sulphur#14-16; blue wing olives sizes #18-22;midges sizes 22-26).

N. Chester County

Marsh Creek Lake

Bluegills and crappies are taking mealworms, wax worms, minnows and small jigs. Bass are taking live bait (worms & minnows) as well as jigs, spinners and crankbaits. The best soft plastic colors to use are black, purple, dark green rubber and pumpkin seed. The best live baits are crayfish, minnows and nightcrawlers.

Streams

French Creek, Pickering Creek, East Brandywine Creek and West Valley Creek have good flows with plenty of trout and very few anglers fishing for them. Water temps are in the 60s. Fly anglers have reported taking trout on blue winged olives, midges and a few taken on sulfurs. Small pheasant tail and hares ears nymphs are a good bet for nymph anglers. Remember, you may never have bait in your possession in any of the Special Regulation Areas, Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures & Fly Fishing Only Areas. The Fly Fishing Area is Catch & Release Only.

Schuylkill River (Black Rock area)

Smallmouth bass fishing has been hit and miss, but a few anglers have had success with artificial lures. Catfish anglers have reported catching several large Channel Catfish and are also getting into Flathead Catfish as well.
