Pennsylvania Fishing Report – August 17, 2017

Anglers have reported bass on the end of weedbeds and success with live minnows for walleye, muskellunge, and nice size smallmouth bass.

Northwest Region

Crawford County

Canadohta Lake

Anglers are catching a few Largemouth Bass and some Muskellunge throughout the lake.

Woodcock Lake

Anglers are catching a few Walleye, Muskellunge, and some nice size Smallmouth Bass.

Woodcock Creek (below the dam)

Anglers are catching Bowfin, Walleye, and Muskellunge. Bowfin are native to Pennsylvania and should be released unharmed.

Central Erie County

Lake Erie

Anglers are catching Walleye anywhere in the lake from more than 60 feet of water. Anglers are catching many sub-legal Walleye so please check your rods often to make sure you do not have one on. Anglers are catching Yellow Perch off Walnut Creek, Gull Point, and Shades Beach.

Western Erie County

Fairview Gravel Pits

Anglers are catching some panfish at the Fairview Gravel Pit. The bait of choice is still grubs and minnows.

Lake Erie/h4>
Anglers out of the Walnut Creek Marina are catching Walleye in 55 to 70 feet of water from the marina straight out and all the way to the Ohio Line. Anglers are catching their limit of Yellow Perch straight out of Walnut Creek in 50 to 60 feet of water. For current Lake Erie conditions, call the Walnut Creek Marina at (814) 833-2464

Warren County

Kinzua Reservoir

Anglers are catching Walleye at the mouths of Sugar Bay and Willow Bay.

Chapman Lake

Chapman Lake is still full of water and fish. Anglers are catching some trout and Largemouth Bass throughout the lake.

Northeasatern Region

Northern Wayne County

Reports are being received of walleye hitting at Prompton Dam for trolling anglers. The trout streams are cooler than normal and providing angling opportunities (early mornings and late afternoons). Bait fishermen, spinners and flies are doing the trick. Long Pond as usual is giving up some large pickerel. Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass are hitting before noon at Belmont Lake.

Northern Susquehanna County

Chicken liver, chicken liver, chicken liver! Make sure to use it because it’s the bait of choice for enticing large Channel Cats. When the river is off color and a little murky they will be active in the daytime. Otherwise hit it at sunset and into the evening on the Susquehanna River.

Eastern Bradford County

Channel Catfish, walleye, Smallmouth Bass and Rock Bass are all very active along the entire Susquehanna River. An occasional Northern Pike and muskellunge are also being reported.

Southern Wayne County and Pike County

Fluctuating water levels and wind have slowed fishing activity on Lake Wallenpaupack. Despite the weather conditions anglers are still having good success catching a variety of fish using natural bait.

Eastern Bradford and Sullivan County

Mt. Pisgah State Park – Stephen Foster Lake

Anglers fishing the lake report perch, crappie, and bluegill are active and catch rates good. Plastics & live bait were both consistent producers.

Centre County

Sayers Lake

Anglers have been doing well for crappies under the Rt. 26 causeway bridge. Most success has been using live minnows or twister tails. Channel Catfish have been reported in the upper sections of the lake on chicken liver in the evening hours. Bass has been reported fishing the submerged roadbeds.

Spring Creek & Bald Eagle Creek

Success has been reported on both these area waters for trout and bass using a variety of flies and lures. Most success for bass has been in the lower stretches of the Bald Eagle near the dam.

Black Moshannon Lake

Anglers have reported some bass and perch on the end of weedbeds. Success has been reported with live minnows, rubber worms and spinners.

Southeastern Region

Bucks County

Lake Luxembourg

(Core Creek County Park): Some Brown Bullheads and small panfish were caught last week on crankbaits.

Anglers have been hooking into some smaller bass & panfish in the Neshaminy Creek on minnows and plastic grubs.

S. Chester County

PA bass

To get to the lake, simply get on Rte. 1 in Southern Chester County and get off on the Route 472 Exit. Turn West on Rte. 472 West and you will go over the Route 472 Bridge and at the top of the next hill you will turn left on to Spruce Grove Road. You will go about a mile and at the bottom of the hill you will see the lake and the Fishing Headquarters on your left. SE Montgomery County/Philadelphia County

Schuylkill River

Anglers are catching Common Carp up and down the river from Philadelphia to Norristown. Try boilies, corn, carp baits and bagels. Anglers are getting into some large Flathead Catfish as well. For the Flatheads, try shrimp, chicken livers, live eels and live Bluegills.
