Northeasatern Region
Fall trout stockings are in full swing throughout the region and we are getting some excellent weather to get out and enjoy them. Please check the online stocking schedule for updates and changes to the stocking list, the stocking schedule can be found at the following link: http://fbweb.pa.gov/stocking/TroutStockingDetails_GIS.aspx
Region streams are still running low after receiving very little rain the last couple months so that will mean anglers will need to use stealth when approaching the low, clear water to ensure a successful day on the water. Also, anglers need to remember that on stocked streams the fish are spread out during the fall so keeping to one hole and not moving is a guaranteed way of limiting your success.
Wild trout anglers need to remember that spawning season is starting and will be occurring throughout the fall and early winter. Make sure when fishing to be careful and watch your step for Brook and Brown Trout redds. Disturbing their spawning by targeting fish over redds or stepping in them can have a negative effect on your favorite stream. Taking a camera this time of year can yield some great photos of trout naturally reproducing and creating the trout you will be catching over the next few years!

Cowanesque Lake
Anglers are catching Smallmouth Bass using drop shots and deep diving crankbaits.
Beechwood Lake
Anglers are catching bass and a few Walleye on the lake. There is not much fishing pressure on the lake, so pack up your kayak or canoe and give it a try. Don’t forget to have your life vest, throw bag and a waterproof whistle on hand. Remember, Beechwood is a PA Fish and Boat Commission lake, so make sure you review the regulations before fishing.
Nessmuck Lake
The lake is full and is being stocked! It is scheduled for another stocking in the next few weeks. Fishing is permitted; however, there is a strict, no harvest, catch and immediately release regulations in place to allow for the reestablishment of the fish populations.
Hopefully, with the fall weather and beautiful colors, anglers and boaters will find time to get out and enjoy the wonderful resources Tioga County has to offer. If you do make it out and you are boating, make sure you have all the required safety equipment (e.g. life vest, water proof whistle, throw bag). Don’t forget, waterfowl hunters need to have all the same safety equipment as other boaters do.

Fishing in the early morning hours, using nymphs is still working best. Anglers are catching trout using mayfly, stonefly and caddis nymphs (e.g. Prince #12-16; gold bead pheasant tail #12-18; Prince #12-16; green weenie #12-16).
Centre County
Spring Creek
Water levels are low and clear. Water temperature is in the high 50s to low 60s. With the return of cooler air temperatures, trout will be looking for food. Fishing should be good throughout the week.
Remember to keep a low profile and approach key fishing areas from downstream. A little bit of rain would be great!
Anglers are catching trout throughout the day, using nymphs (e.g. green weenie, hot spot sow bug, Walt’s Worm, small mayfly patterns, midge larvae patterns).
Dry dropper systems continue to work well (e.g. caddis on top and a wet ant underneath).

Don’t put that boat away just yet! Fall colors are starting to appear here in Pennsylvania. Hibernia County Park, located in Chester County, offers a wide variety of photographic opportunities on the lake by boat. The shoreline of the lake mirrors the colorful trees, giving the outdoors-person a wonderful opportunity for fantastic photos. Chambers Lake has a very nice boat ramp and ample parking. Boats with electric motor only are allowed and must have a launch permit or registration whether they are powered or unpowered. While you should always wear a life jacket when boating, wearing a life jacket is mandatory from November 1 to April 30 in boats 16 feet and under and while operating all canoes and kayaks. Don’t forget to tie a whistle to your life jacket.
