Boaters are reminded to check all of the required safety equipment on their boats such as an appropriate sized USCG approved wearable personal flotation device for each person on the boat, a type IV USCG Approved throw device (boats 16’ or more in length, except canoes & kayaks), USCG Approved Fire Extinguisher (if required), Sound Device, and the navigation lights (must be displayed from sunset to sunrise and during periods of restricted visibility) are in working order. In addition, please check to make sure your boat is properly registered. Motorboats and boats powered by an electric motor must display a proper motorboat registration. Unpowered boats such as canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, rowboats, etc. launching at Commission lakes or access areas including PA State Parks launch or access areas must display either a Commission launch use permit or a PA State Parks launch permit or mooring permit.

Remember, during the period from November 1st to April 30th, boaters are required to wear their PFDs on boats less than 16’ in length or on any canoe or kayak.

Carbon County

Aquashicola Creek, Mauch Chunk Creek and the Pohopoco Creek

Although the hunting season is underway, many anglers are still taking advantage of the fishing opportunities in the district. Anglers reported good success catching trout on the Aquashicola Creek, Mauch Chunk Creek and the Pohopoco Creek. Anglers are reminded that the Pohopoco Creek, from the outlet of Beltzville Lake downstream to the cable across the creek at Hideaway Hunting & Fishing Club, is designated as both a Class A Wild Trout Stream and Stocked Trout Water. The extended trout season from September 5, 2017 through February 28, 2018 on the Pohopoco Creek which is designated as both a Class A Wild Trout Stream and Stocked Trout Water is a No Harvest – Catch and Immediate Release Only. The daily limit of trout during the extended trout season on all other stocked trout waters in the district is three combined species. Anglers are encouraged to consult the 2017 PA Fishing Summary for further information on the stocked trout waters in the district.

Mauch Chunk Lake

Mauch Chunk Lake is still producing nice size panfish, crappie and perch. Most successful anglers have been fishing from a boat near the swimming area of the lake. Micro jigs tipped with a fathead minnow or wax worms had previously yielded nice catches of panfish, crappies and perch. Pickerel and bass action continues to be good at the lake. However, most bass are measuring less than the minimum size of fifteen inches. Mauch Chunk Lake is governed by the Big Bass Program Special Regulations.

Beltzville Lake

Anglers had reported doing well catching bass at Beltzville Lake in recent weeks. Most bass action was reported near the powerline area of the lake, and the upper reaches of the Pohopoco Creek, Wild Creek bay areas of the lake. Several anglers have reported catching Striped Bass using chicken livers, or live bait near the Preachers Camp access area of the lake.

Lehigh River

Anglers fly fishing the Lehigh River at Glen Onoko access have been reporting good success catching trout in recent weeks.

Northern Pike and Southern Wayne Counties

Lake Wallenpaupack and Shohola Lakes

Things have quieted down here in the district. The boating season has slowed down and has ended for most part. There are a few fishermen venturing out and the bass are biting well on crank baits and in close to the shoreline areas at Lake Wallenpaupack and Shohola Lakes.

Lackawaxen River

Trout anglers are still finding many trout in the Lackawaxen River. The water temps are down in the 40’s and lower in some cases. The law requires boaters to be wearing their PFD’s on any craft less than 16 feet and on all canoes and kayaks. But for every one’s safety it is recommended that if you are in a boat please wear it.

Other Areas

Bluegills, perch, and pickerel anglers are still doing really well in all other water areas.

Pike, Wayne & Monroe Counties

Recent dip in temperatures has created skim ice on most smaller impoundments and is hampering angling opportunities.

Tioga County

Right now, things are looking good for early ice! The swamps and puddles iced up over the weekend!

Hamilton Lake

Anglers are catching trout using spinners, waxworms, mealworms and minnows.

Tioga and Cowanesque spillways

Anglers are catching Walleye, Smallmouth and various panfish.

Clinton County

Fishing Creek

Water levels are good. Trout are beginning to spawn. Be sure to watch where you are stepping, so you don’t step on the eggs within the nests/redds. The nests/redds hold the next generation of trout for our streams!

Anglers are catching trout using small streamer patterns (size #6-10). Fish the banks and structure and see what happens!

Anglers are also catching trout using nymphs (e.g. #14-18 iron lotus; #12-18 prince nymph; #6-10 black stone; #12-18 gold bead pheasant tail). Thread-bodied mayfly and caddis pupae are also working well in shallow riffles.

Centre County

Spring Creek

Water temperature is in the 50s. The water level is great. Trout are preparing to spawn, please watch your step and avoid their nests/redds.

Anglers are catching trout throughout the day, using nymphs (e.g. green weenie, hot spot sow bug, olive scuds, small mayfly patterns, midge larvae patterns).

Make sure you have a few olive and/or black streamer patterns (#6-10) to throw during or just after the rain events!

Trout are also rising sporadically to tan caddis and blue wing olives.

Southeastern Region

Delaware River

The trees in the Southeast Region have dropped their leaves into the rivers and creeks, so anglers have to contend with those while having lines out. On the Delaware River between Northampton and Bucks Counties, anglers are still picking up some Smallmouth Bass and Walleyes on tubes, live minnows, plastic grubs and top water lures.

With the cold temperatures settling in, try working live minnows in the lakes for bass, pickerel, crappies and trout in the few lakes that have been stocked for them around the region. Use a slow retrieve for crankbaits.

Bucks County

Core Creek Park (Lake Luxembourg) And Lake Nockamixon

Try live minnows at Core Creek Park (Lake Luxembourg) for Largemouth Bass and White Perch, and try this same bait option for Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, and crappies at Lake Nockamixon. The bass have also been striking suspended crankbaits at Nockamixon, and that Crappies will take small tube baits.

Chester County

Marsh Creek Lake

Anglers are hooking into Pickerel and Yellow Perch on live minnows.
