Cape Cod Fishing Report - December 28, 2017

Serious cold and a frigid 10-day forecast have Cape Cod anglers excited for a shot of ice fishing.

A quick update on the Cape Cod fishing scene:

Serious cold and a frigid 10-day forecast have Cape Cod anglers excited for a shot of ice fishing. As of Thursday morning, most ponds still had plenty of open water as whipping winds were keeping even skim ice from forming.  However, as soon as the breeze stops blowing, water bodies should begin to lock up quick. There could be fishable ice in select spots by the middle of next week, if not sooner.

I suppose you could still fish open water on some of the trout ponds, but it would only be a matter of minutes before your guides iced up and your fingers went numb.  Best bet right now is to prep your ice gear, hit one of the local shops for any last-minute accessories, and get ready for the rare treat of January ice fishing on Cape Cod.

As always, follow the rules of ice fishing safety and proceed with extreme caution if venturing out on the ice.
