Remember! From November 1st through April 30th there is mandatory wear for life jackets from on boats less than 16 feet in length and all canoes and kayaks. Wearing your life jacket is the best way to prevent a boating fatality and we recommend you wear one all year, not just during the mandatory wear period.

Tioga County

Although cold temperatures continued through this past weekend, a blanket of snow kept lakes from building additional ice.

Currently, most of the lakes in the county are frozen; however, there are still several thin-ice areas. The warm days this week, should help melt the snow and then refreeze, allowing lakes to build better ice conditions by this coming weekend.

Hills Creek Lake

A few anglers are ice fishing the lake and catching Yellow Perch; however, the ice is still building and there are several locations with very thin ice. Anglers should use caution and wait for better conditions.

Clinton County

Fishing Creek

Water temperatures are in the 40s. The water is low and clear.

Anglers are catching trout using streamers (size #6-10). Target deep holes, logs, large rocks and undercut banks.

Anglers are also catching trout using small nymphs (e.g. #14-16 frenchie; #12-18 gold bead pheasant tail; #12-16 prince).

Centre County

Foster Joseph Sayers Lake

Currently, the lake has a thin sheet of ice with several open water areas.

Bald Eagle Creek

Fishing is slow, but anglers are catching trout using streamer patterns and spinners. Target the deep waters and structure (e.g. log jams, boulders and undercut banks).

Spring Creek

Water temperatures are in the mid-upper 40s. The water is low and clear.

Anglers are catching trout using nymphs (e.g. bird of prey caddis, hot spot sow bug, olive scuds, small mayfly patterns).

Olive and/or black streamer patterns (#6-10) are still working well. Target deep holes, logs and undercut banks.

Northampton County

Anglers have been seen fishing the lower stretches of the Bushkill Creek with spinners and various baits without much success. On the Saucon Creek, nymphs and dry flies seem to be working well. On the Monocacy Creek, near Ilicks Mill, trout have been seen surfacing, but not many anglers have reported landing them. I have noticed some ice fishing holes drilled on the ice at East Bangor Dam, but please remember we do NOT monitor Ice conditions and extreme caution should be exercised when ice fishing. Lastly, this time of year is a great time to give the gift of a Fishing License Voucher, good for all of 2018 that can be purchased now.
