Long Island - New York Fishing Report - January 4, 2018

With the state of emergency for Long Island and New York City issued a couple of hours ago, it has been tough for me to put a fishing report together for all readers out there. Hopefully all of you anglers are home keeping warm and reading the New York January Edition of On The Water. With 192 pages full the best articles and tips for any type of angler that can sure make a day stuck inside a lot more enjoyable. If you did not get your edition of the magazine yet, make sure to log online and read it on your tablet or desktop.

What I can tell you On The Water faithfuls is what I heard earlier in the week when I was visiting shops. Shops said for the areas that are not frozen and you can fish in the saltwater that guys are still catching herring. But to make matters worse besides the snow today this weekend, we are supposed to get record low temperatures. This might be a good weekend for many of you saltwater anglers to organize your gear and what you might want to buy this upcoming show season. It is a good time also to get reels serviced and rods repaired so you are not waiting until the last minute when the weather starts to get nice. Don’t forget to go and get your 4×4 and sport fishing permits as well, avoid the long lines by doing it sooner rather then later.

I have also heard of and saw pictures that people have tagged On The Water on Instagram of very good ice fishing action on Long Island. If you are new to ice fishing stop in a shop before heading out to make sure you have everything you need from rigs and gear to safety equipment. Make sure to send your pictures to On The Water of all your winter catches!
