The fishing has been superb in most waterways. Even with high water conditions the anglers that are out are being handsomely rewarded with catches of catfish, walleye, bass, panfish and trout.

Northwest Region

Crawford County

Conneaut Lake

Anglers are catching panfish, Northern Pike, and Largemouth Bass throughout the lake. Anglers are targeting the panfish on the north end of the lake and using live bait to catch them.

Pymatuning Reservoir

Anglers are catching crappies, Channel Catfish, Yellow Perch, Largemouth Bass, and Walleye. For panfish, anglers should target the shallow areas out to about 6 foot of water. Anglers are catching plenty of Walleye limits throughout the lake. A night crawler or minnow tipped jig is always a great place to start.

French Creek

Anglers are catching Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Northern Pike. Paddlers must have an unpowered registration or a launch permit to use PFBC launch areas along French Creek.

Erie County

Presque Isle Bay

Anglers are catching Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, and panfish throughout Presque Isle Bay. Anglers are catching Smallmouth Bass on a variety of soft plastic presentations such as drop shot, small swimbaits, and ned rigs. Anglers are still catching a releasing Bass waters across the County. Most are still holding in the shallows. Topwater action is good. Whopper Ploppers, poppers, buzzbaits, and frogs are starting to work well in bays with warmer waters. Anglers are also having luck using craw and shad colors squarebill cranks.

A few anglers are also catching Muskies using large shiners, bucktails, and glide baits. Again, look for shallow bays and weed edges.

Hammond and Tioga Lake

Both lakes are clearing up. Anglers are catching Crappie using live minnows. Right now, on Tioga Lake, Mill Bay is the most productive area. On Hammond Lake, the area along Route 287 and structures, just outside the “no wake” buoys is most productive.

Northeastern Region

Northern Wayne & Northern Susquehanna Counties

The fishing has been superb in most waterways. Even with high water conditions the anglers that are out are being handsomely rewarded with catches of catfish, walleye, bass, panfish and trout. Anglers are landing large catfish, walleye and numerous trout. Get out and enjoy some quality angling!

Southeastern Region

Crappies are still feeding around the region, but that will slow down with the warming temperatures after this past holiday weekend. Bluegills will be in close to shore on spawning beds. It is an easier time to fish from shore for many species that are spawning or raiding nests (redds). The weeds haven’t filled in yet and fish are feeding before the heat of summer sets in.

The flood conditions over the holiday weekend did put a hamper on fishing, especially in the creeks and rivers. Predicted overcast days coming up with mild temps could lead to increased fish activity.

Boating season will be picking up now that Memorial Day weekend has come and gone. Check out our website for important safety and regulatory information before hitting the water.

PFBC Outreach Staff will be at the Step Outdoors Lehigh Valley Event this come weekend! Check out the details at: steelstacks.org/festivals/stepoutdoors/
