Current fishing activity has been very light to no activity occurring on most of the stocked trout waters in the district. Anglers have been reported good success catching trout on the Pohopoco Creek downstream of Beltzville Lake. Anglers are reminded that the Pohopoco Creek is designated as both a Class A Wild Trout Stream and Stocked Trout Water; from the outlet of Beltzville Lake downstream to the cable across the stream at the Hideaway Hunting & Fishing Club. The extended trout season for this section of stream is a No – Harvest – Catch and Immediate Release Only. Anglers are also reminded that all other Stocked Trout Waters not governed by Special Regulations and all waters downstream of Stock Trout Waters during the extended trout season the daily limit is 3 (combined species). Southeastern Region
Berks County
Blue Marsh Lake
Blue Marsh Lake shore fishing anglers have been enjoying the numerous lake water level drawdowns (proactive flood control due to the abnormal rainfall events). These drawdowns are offering access to spots usually only accessible during the winter drawdown. Boaters have not been so lucky this year with the weather and varying water levels.
Tulpehocken Creek
Anyone paddling the Tulpehocken Creek (starting below the outflow of the dam) should take cautions due to numerous trees in the water that have created hazards; especially near Reber’s Bridge, where a large tree has fallen and prevented safe passage on all but the left side of the creek.
Schuylkill River
Epler’s Access on the Schuylkill River has been closed for repairs to the access road at the entrance. The road has collapsed and washed out a large portion of the roadway, leading to unsafe conditions. Numerous signs have been posted and barriers erected. Stay tuned to PFBC’s website for future updates.
E. Berks/N. Montgomery Counties
Schuylkill River
Anglers on the Schuylkill River are landing large Flathead Catfish this time of year. Bluegill seems to be the preferred bait, but fish are being landed on all sorts of baits from night crawlers to chicken livers. With the weather getting cooler in the evenings it’s a great time of year to get out at night and enjoy some great catfish action. Just downstream of the Black Rock Dam is a great place to fish from the shore. Montgomery County Parks maintain the Canal Park on the Mont Clare side of the River. This park offers ample parking and is open all evening to anglers. All Montgomery Park rules apply at this location a sign board is in place listing all the local rules, which include No Open Fires & No Alcohol on Park Property.
Lehigh County
Leaser Lake
Mid to late evening anglers have been successfully catching Brown Bullheads and Channel Catfish at Leaser Lake. Anglers have been targeting the South and West Launch Coves with chicken liver and nightcrawlers for successful trips.
